Conversations in Public Theology

Conversations in Public Theology is a NEW section of the Alliance website. It will address the 100 recommendations of the Faith and Nation report.

Each of the articles listed below explores one or more of the recommendations of the Faith and Nation report, and sets out how that recommendation might be implemented practically.

The purpose of the articles is not to expound or summarise the recommendation or the relevant section of the report. Rather, their purpose is to give concrete examples of how the recommendation has been implemented or could be implemented by individuals, churches or organisations linked to the Evangelical Alliance.

Our aim in all this is to stimulate thinking and practice, so that alltogether we can continue to change society for the glory of God.

Faith and Nation Recommendation no 30
Conversations in Public Theology: Faith and Nation Recommendation no.30- Urge government to recognise the rights of workers to attend Sunday public worship and to maintain a weekly day for rest and family time. Emphasise that it is for the benefit of society as a whole that a proper balance between work and home life be encouraged, by legislation where appropriate. Uphold the rights of other religious traditions to reasonable time off work in conjunction with their own religious festivals. .
Faith and Nation Recommendation no 35
Conversations in Public Theology: Faith and Nation Recommendation no.35 - Actively promote justice and compassion for the poor, vulnerable and oppressed, prioritising care through the maintenance of healthy welfare and charitable sectors for those who suffer disadvantage and need.
Faith and Nation Recommendation no. 91
Urge preservation of the sanctity and dignity of human life, especially at its beginning and end, and oppose extension of individual freedoms and rights in the practice of abortion and euthanasia.
Faith and Nation Recommendation no.11
Conversations in Public Theology: Faith and Nation Recommendation no.11 - Pursue constructive political engagement, seeking to avoid a clamorous or censorious tone which could prove counter-productive, and repudiating violent, threatening or coercive methods.
