Christian engagement with the media

 

In this month's hot topic we look at Christian engagement in the press and media in Scotland. Communication using the media can appear daunting, but we believe Christians can and should be engaging with their local and national newspapers, radio and TV.  As Christians we have so many amazing stories to share of what God is doing across Scotland.

Alister Blyth is the editor of Cumbernauld News. In this article Alister shares his reflections on how Christians can get Good News stories of all that God is doing in their communities into their local newspaper. Charis Gibson is senior press officer at the Evangelical Alliance, where she works on media strategy, liaising with the media and campaigns. If you are passionate about telling real life stories about God's power to change lives, you might be called to be a local Church Media Rep to your local newspaper or radio station. In this article, Charis Gibson gives some great ideas to equip you in your calling to feed Good news stories into the local media in your area.

Ian Black is the Press Officer for the Evangelical Alliance in Scotland and is also Director of Dundee for Christ, a Christian event's ministry working with Churches across the city of Dundee! In this article he gives an update on his role with a particular focus on Glasgow.

 In this month's Podcast, we have an extract from a seminar given at Media Unlocked! -a one-day course designed to train and advise Christian leaders and groups on how best to engage with the fast-changing media environment. In this particular seminar Charis Gibson, senior press officer at the Evangelical Alliance,  gives some fantastic tips on how your church or organisation can practically and responsibly engage with the media and press, focusing particularly on how to write a good press release.
