2gether Scotland Website

Welcome to the 2gether Scotland Website: August 2010

We love sharing stories and hope you enjoy reading and hearing about all the Lord is doing through his people in Scotland. Each month we will take a different theme, with articles and Podcast interviews from leaders, exploring essential topics affecting the Scottish Church. We hope that through reading the articles and listening to the Podcast we can help you stay networked and connected and be encouraged and excited by what the Lord is doing in Scotland.

This Months Hot Topic: The Prodigal Son

Welcome to the August 2gether Scotland cMail. Similar to last year, for the months of July and August our cMail articles are short reflections on a specific passage of scripture, demonstrating the great breadth and depth of the evangelical church in Scotland through its interpretation of Scripture. As an alliance we have the amazing privilege to bring together individuals, churches and organisations from across the evangelical spectrum to resource, nourish and benefit the wider church.

So, as we come to the end of summer, we have a couple of short reflections on the story of the Prodigal Son found in Luke 15.

Please note there are no Podcasts in July and August.

Peter Anderson is the Senior Pastor of Destiny Church in Edinburgh. In 2003 he left his job as an Architect and become the first staff Peter Andersonmember at Destiny as the full time pastor. Since then the church has grown from 4 to 600 – 700.

 Extract:

"The Father gave instant acceptance and restoration to the younger son without waiting for him to evidence his repentance. If we're to be churches who pursue Jesus' mission and actively "receive sinners", then we've got to deeply understand grace and believe that the gospel has power to truly transform people."

Gordon KennedyRev Gordon Kennedy has been Church of Scotland Minister at Stranraer St Ninians since 2000. He is also a member of the Evangelical Alliance Scotland Executive. You can read Gordon's Blog at Kennedy's Corner

 Extract:

"Confession of sin is a direct challenge to my self righteousness. I have become angry at the extravagance of grace and need to humble myself in confession to re-enter the place of Christ's mercy and be found by him all over again. Do I, do you, do we are worshipping congregations faithfully practice such confession as to bring me empty handed to my Saviour?"

Keith Short Keith Shortis the Pastor of Barton Baptist Church and the Leader of the Scottish Network Churches, with 26 years experience in full time leadership, working both in evangelism, church planting and leadership training.  Before moving to Edinburgh, he was Senior Pastor at Bishopbriggs Community Church and until recently, he chaired the Executive and Council of the Evangelical Alliance in Scotland.

 Extract:

"Yet that father never gave up hope, he kept looking, wanting, longing and loving. Even that, though, pales into insignificance compared to the love that God has for his children."
